C22000 Commercial Bronze Alloy Information Page
Atlas carries C22000 Commercial Bronze Alloy in Sheets and Plates. We carry a very large range of sizes and will cut the material to length. C22000 is favored when product appearance is a factor of concern as it possesses a rich & pleasing bronze color.
Traits of a Commercial Bronze Alloy
UNS C22000 Commercial Bronze is a copper alloy that is nominally composed of 90% copper and 10% zinc. However, due to the fact that it has more zinc than tin, this alloy can actually be categorized as brass. It gets its reddish color from the high amount of copper.
UNS C22000 Commercial bronze alloy (90%/10%) has practical properties such as:
- Excellent malleability
- Ductility
- Strength and hardness
- Anti-Galling
- Corrosion resistance
Most Common Commercial Bronze Applications
Believe it or not, commercial bronze alloys are used in many applications - some common, others not so much. Just to give you an idea of its versatility, here are a few of its most recurrent uses:
- Electrical Uses: Cable wrap, waveguides, AC motors
- Consumer Products: Costume jewelry, caskets, lipstick cases, compacts, chain links, ballpoint pens
- Fasteners: Bolts, rivets, screws, line clamps, screw shells
- Plumbing: Pipes, valves, fittings
- Industrial Uses: Flexible tube, studs, vitreous enamel, escutcheons, screen wire
- Building and Architectural Uses: Kick plates, hardware, etching, grill work, screen cloth, ornamental trim, weather stripping
- Arms and Artillery: small arms cartridges, artillery projectile rotating bands, primer caps, rotating bands, press-fit

Frequently Asked Questions
What fabrication processes can be used with a commercial bronze alloy?
A few of the common fabrication processes you will find used with commercial bronze alloys are piercing and punching, shearing, forming and bending, etching, coining, stamping, drawing, heading and upsetting, roll threading and knurling, spinning, blanking, hot forging and pressing, and squeezing and swaging.
Does commercial bronze hold up well for underwater applications?
Yes. Due to its high copper composition and lack of iron, commercial bronze will hold up well for underwater applications and is often used in marine environments. It does not matter whether it is fresh or saltwater - this non-ferrous metal will not corrode when exposed to moisture or water.
Will commercial bronze rust?
No, commercial bronze does not rust. In order for it to do so, it would need to contain iron - but it does not.
Is commercial bronze alloy used in architecture?
While commercial bronze has a copper look that may be fitting in some architectural instances, it isn’t as widely used as other copper alloys. You may occasionally find it used in escalators or elevators. You may even see it used in entryways.
How can I find out if commercial bronze is right for my project?
There are many different types of metals and alloys available. Speaking to a professional is a great way to make sure brass is the best choice for your project. Call the expert team of Atlas Bronze at (800) 478-0887.
